Your preferencesUnits & time

The site reads your browser for these and gets them right for most people without being asked. Where it guesses wrong, this is where you correct it.

Units

Applies to hull dimensions. Speed stays in knots and passage distance in nautical miles for every reader — those are the units a vessel is measured in at sea, in every country, and the ones this site’s sources and API both use.

Clock

How times are written. Detection follows your region’s own convention, so a reader in Berlin sees 15:19 and a reader in Chicago sees 3:19 PM.

Time zone

Position reports are recorded in UTC and shown in your zone. Set this to UTC to read them as they were filed — which is how they appear in the API, in the structured data behind every page, and in the datetime attribute of every timestamp regardless of what you choose here.
